the D-day
I dedicate this blogpost to Maartje "Maria" de Meer.
That's because of her, not dying, but leaving. And because she's my friend, my co-worker and my house mate, though just until tonight 22.40 sharp, when she'll just be my friend. By then she has quit her (our) job and she'll leave our home- the love hostel Patiperro in Valpariso... She says she want's to go to Brasil and she says that she has bought a bus ticket for tonight but I still hope that she'll be here tomorrow morning, eating her strawberry jam sandwiches, as she failed earlier today to leave which she said yesterday, that she was going to do..
I hope, but I doubt it will occure. I think Valparaiso has given up it's hope about that dutch gal, because It's not Maria who is leaving, it is Valparaiso who let's her go.
Valparaiso will remember, and I will miss, Marias laugh, probably the sweetest dutch giggling ever heard outside Hollandia, Marias loving sides, especially when it comes to giving away kisses to old, un-known chilean men on the streets and Marias lively sides, especially when it comes to running on the chilean plazas and being hit my taxis or throughing beer around her on clubs.
I think you could say that we've had fun. I know that Valpo will keep me entertained, but it will certainly be different.
And this is just a few things that would have been different if you, Maartje!, haven't been there.
I guess you remember when I did a swedish cake?.....
...That was good enough for a chef and a another native swede....
...after we had a swedish dinner with salmon, potatoes and dill...?
...which was the last dinner with Patiperro Friends...
...Did you dream about your future husband, while resting (not for the entire night but atleast during the beginning..) your head on the seven flowers I picked...

...the night after the midsummer party (the word you pronounced so well!)?
You've seen and heard the Valparaiso Walkingtour crew have their get togethers and discussions, you've seen the board being painted and you've seen Jon painting other stuff. You've had your own get togheters with Bobby and other discussions with me. And you've been walking your own Valparaiso walking tours on the streets of our beloved Valpo.
You've met me. And Jon and Nichlas and Christoph. And then some hobbits, freaks and other backpackers.
And we've had parties and one pancake party.
And others have been playing football...
...while we've been watching, in the moonlight, drinking coffe in in the window of the bathroom.
I hope you do remember, because I will remember!
And I think you could say that I will miss you.
LOVE AND ABRAZOS
